LUBBOCK, Texas -- No. 36 Northwestern suffered a 4-0 defeat to No. 13 Texas Tech on Friday evening in the Wildcats' second of three matches of a Texas road trip.
The Red Raiders jumped in front after doubles play as the hosts got victories at Nos. 1 and 3. At the top spot, the team of Gabriela Talaba and Alex Valenstein edged the Wildcats' 40th-ranked duo of Alicia Barnett and Erin Larner, 7-5. Meanwhile, Texas Tech also got a 6-2 victory from their No. 3 team of Lynn Kiro and Felicity Maltby.
The Red Raiders earned the match victory with three straight-sets wins at the top of their lineup. Gabriela Talaba -- ranked No. 122 -- got a victory at No. 1, while Sarah Dvorak and Alex Valenstein earned wins at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.
Northwestern was closing in on a victory at No. 5 as Jillian Rooney led Sabrina Federici 6-3, 5-3 when the contest was abandoned when Texas Tech clinched the match victory.
The Wildcats (5-7) wrap up their road trip with a contest against Texas in Austin on Monday.
