No. 26 Wildcats Fall to No. 11 Cowgirls

STILLWATER, Okla. -- No. 26 Northwestern couldn't overcome host and 11th-ranked Oklahoma State as the Cowgirls advanced to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a 4-0 victory Sunday afternoon.
Both teams advanced to Sunday's regional final by posting victories on Saturday as NU defeated Arizona State and Oklahoma State topped Notre Dame.
The Cowgirls earned victories at Nos. 2 and 3 to take the doubles point and take the early advantage. Despite the team loss, the Wildcats did get a marquee victory at the No. 1 spot in a battle of top-10 ranked teams. NU's seventh-ranked duo of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp dominated the ninth-ranked team of Maria Alvarez and Kelsey Laurente, 6-2.
In singles play, the Wildcats were able to keep pace with the talented top part of Oklahoma State's lineup that features four individuals ranked in the top 100 nationally. However, the Cowgirls' depth at the back end of the lineup was the difference as the hosts got victories at Nos. 5 and 6 before getting the clincher from 89th-ranked Laurente at the No. 4 spot.
NU remainded in close contention in the three matches at the top of the lineup, including Erin Larner at No. 2 who was one game away from defeating 38th-ranked Vladica Babic when their match was abandoned.
Northwestern returns to action at 11 a.m. Sunday when it hosts Duke at Combe Tennis Center.
