Wildcats Fall to UCLA in NCAA Second Round

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern faced a tall task Sunday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA tournament, playing No. 6 UCLA on the Bruins' home courts. UCLA came in with two doubles teams and all six singles players ranked and proved too much for the 26th-ranked Wildcats, winning 4-0.
Northwestern ends the 2015 season with a 16-8 mark, including 10 wins over ranked opponents.
Alex Chatt and Lok Sze Leung teamed up in doubles play for an 8-1 win at No. 3. The duo beat UCLA's Chanelle Van Nguyen and Kristin Wiley to improve to 12-4 in dual matches. The Bruins boasted a pair of top-10 ranked tandems at the other two doubles spots and managed to win both to secure the first team point.
UCLA won the first three completed singles matches to secure a trip to the Round of 16 in Waco, Texas.
Brooke Rischbieth led at the No. 6 spot over 109th-ranked Kaitlin Ray, 6-4, 3-2, but the match went unfinished when the Bruins clinched the dual. Alicia Barnett went up against the top-ranked player in the country in Robin Anderson, while Erin Larner played a top-25 opponent in Van Nguyen.
Chatt and Larner finish their freshman campaigns tied for the team lead in wins with 29. Chatt was 29-12 with 19 dual wins and a 10-1 record in Big Ten play. Larner went 29-11 and earned All-Big Ten honors and was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Barnett played No. 1 singles for the Wildcats in 2015 and will return for her senior season having been named All-Big Ten in each of the past two seasons.
