This was the 71st all-time meeting between Northwestern and Michigan and the 42nd in Ann Arbor.
The loss was Northwestern's first against a Big Ten team in overtime. The Wildcats entered this contest 7-0 in such games. NU now is 8-4 all-time in overtime.
Northwestern's first OT game since the 2010 Outback Bowl against Auburn.
Northwestern accumulated 431 total offense yards against the nation's seventh-ranked defense, which entered the game allowing 288.7 yards per outing.
The Wildcats became the first team this season to score a touchdown against Michigan on their first offensive possession of the game. NU marched 78 yards before Venric Mark's 3-yard TD rush.
Northwestern recovered one Michigan fumble on the afternoon, raising its season total to 13 fumble recoveries. The Wildcats came into the game tied for fourth nationally in that category.
The game entered halftime knotted at 14, marking the ninth time in 10 games the Wildcats were ahead or tied after two quarters. NU has outscored opponents 161-80 in the first half this season.
Northwestern has scored in double figures offensively in 70 consecutive games.
INDIVIDUAL
RB Venric Mark surpassed 100 rushing yards in a game for the seventh time this season, finishing with 104 to raise his season total to 1,176. Mark, the Big Ten leader in all-purpose yards per game with 183.6, recorded 260 against the Wolverines.
After throwing just one pass in NU's last outing vs. Iowa, QB Trevor Siemian entered the game with 1:53 remaining in the second quarter and quickly engineered an NU touchdown drive. Siemian completed 4-of-5 passes for 53 yards on the series, including a back-shoulder TD throw from 19 yards out. It was Siemian's fifth passing TD this season. He then led a go-ahead TD drive in the fourth quarter, finishing the game 6-for-7 through the air for 87 yards and two scores.
WR Cameron Dickerson was on the receiving end of Siemian's touchdown toss, the first career score for the redshirt freshman wideout.
PK Jeff Budzien connected on a 34-yard field goal, improving to 12-of-13 on field goal tries this season.
WR Christian Jones caught five passes for 61 yards, setting a single-game career high for receptions.
LB Chi Chi Ariguzo caused and recovered a fumble by Michigan's Fitzgerald Toussaint in the second quarter. It was his third fumble recovery of the year and first forced fumble.
Senior SB Tim Riley recorded the first three rushing attempts of his career, carrying three times for 11 yards.
Senior CB Demetrius Dugar made his first interception of the season and the second of his career. His other career INT came last season against Iowa.
