No. 1 Wildcats Sweep Golden Gophers, 7-0

MINNEAPOLIS -- No. 1 Northwestern extended its conference win streak to 71 with a 7-0 victory over No. 75 Minnesota Saturday afternoon. The `Cats swept all nine matches and Keri Robison clinched it with a straight-set win at No. 5.
The 14th-ranked duo of Georgia Rose and Lauren Lui started it off for the `Cats with an 8-3 defeat of Karina Chiarelli and Alex Seaton at No. 1. Elena Chernyakova and Nazlie Ghazal were next off the courts with an 8-3 win over Alessandra Ferrazzi and Niltooli Wilkins.
Keri Robison and Maria Mosolova continued the streak of 8-3 victories, defeating Tijana Koprivica and Jackie Sperling at No. 2. The Wildcat tandem notched their 11th consecutive win and improved to 17-1 on the season.
Northwestern's domination continued into singles where second-ranked Maria Mosolova dropped Chiarelli at the top spot with a 6-1, 6-2 decision for her third win in a row.
Nazlie Ghazal collected her team-leading 16th win with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over the Gophers' Alex Seaton at No. 4 singles. The match was clinched with a 6-1, 6-0 Keri Robison victory over Jackie Sperling at No. 5.
Even though the match was won, the `Cats kept the pressure on. Elena Chernyakova built on NU's lead, defeating Peta Forsyth, 6-0, 6-2. No. 20 Georgia Rose and No. 119 Lauren Lui also notched straight-set wins to finish the sweep.
The `Cats are back on the road, facing Iowa Sunday at 11 a.m. to finish out their away conference schedule. They are set to conclude their conference schedule at home next weekend, hosting Ohio State and Penn State.
