SEATTLE -- Northwestern's fourth-ranked women's tennis team did not drop a single match en route to a 7-0 win over Washington Tuesday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Wildcats recorded their third sweep of the season with the win and freshman Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) took her 16th-straight singles victory with a win at No. 3 singles.

The Wildcats' No. 3 doubles team of Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) and Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) was the first to strike for Northwestern as the two didn't drop a game to the Huskies' Stephanie Svanfeldt and Melinda Wong and won 8-0.

Northwestern's seventh-ranked doubles team of Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) and Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) then clinched the doubles point for the 'Cats when they topped Washington's 38th-ranked team of Dinka Hadzic and Victoria Brymer, 8-2, at No. 1 singles.

Rose and Feriel Esseghir (Sarasota, Fla./Brickhouse Academy) carried out the doubles sweep for the 'Cats by outlasting Tara Simpson and Monika Kolbovic at No. 2 doubles, 8-6. With the win, the duo improves to 7-0 in dual matches.

The Wildcats took the momentum from the doubles matches and ran with it.

No. 36 Rose won her 16th-consecutive singles match by rolling past Simpson at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1. She boasts a team-best dual record of 12-0.

Esseghir then beat Wong at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-2, to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.

Grier, the nation's ninth-ranked singles player, quickly clinched the match for Northwestern with her sixth win of the year at No. 1 singles. She topped Washington's 98th-ranked Hadzic 6-3, 6-2, securing the Wildcats' ninth win of the season.

No. 26 Prousis kept the winning theme alive for the 'Cats when she recorded her team-high 25th singles win. Prousis beat Brymer at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-3.

Peisel was the only Wildcat to go to a third set on the day, but she pulled out the win over Svanfeldt at No. 4 singles. After dropping the first set, Peisel stormed back with a win in the second set and in the third-set tiebreaker. She won the match 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8).

Washington's Kolbovic defaulted at No. 6 singles, giving Ghazal the win and Northwestern the 7-0 sweep.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 9-3 on the season.

Northwestern returns to action at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25 when the Wildcats travel to East Lansing, Mich., to face conference foe Michigan State.
