
Northwestern Locks Up Big Ten Regular-Season Title

EVANSTON, Ill. - It's a clinch. With its fourth, 7-0 sweep in the last six matches, Northwestern locked up its second-consecutive Big Ten regular-season championship Saturday at Ohio State. The Wildcats close the regular season with a 21-2 overall record and perfect 10-0 mark in the conference.
Northwestern has now stood atop the Big Ten six of the last seven years at the conclusion of the regular season. The 'Cats will get a chance to extend their streak of sixth-straight Big Ten Championship tournament titles next weekend at Michigan State.
Against the Buckeyes, the `Cats remained unbeatable in conference doubles play by sweeping the point for the 10th time this season, finishing with a combined 30-0 record.
A singles sweep saw five Wildcats close out undefeated conference singles records, as well. Freshman Audra Cohen (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas), junior Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) and sophomore Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) are all 10-0, graduate student Valerie Vladea (Tiffin, Iowa/Burlington Central) is 9-0 and senior Andrea Yung (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) is 8-0.
Saturday's win in Columbus marked the fourth time the `Cats had swept a conference foe, 7-0, this year.
Northwestern is next in action Thursday through Sunday, April 28 through May 1, at the Big Ten Championship hosted by Michigan State.
