EVANSTON, Ill. - Four Wildcats recorded victories in both singles and doubles Saturday night against 56th-ranked Oregon, driving Northwestern to a 6-1 win over the Ducks. The `Cats swept the three doubles matches and won every singles match but one to improve to 6-4 overall. The loss dropped Oregon to 7-4.

Senior Chuck Perrin, junior Adam Schaechterle and sophomores Willy Lock and Christian Tempke each posted singles and doubles wins.

At No. 2 doubles, Schaechterle and senior Tommy Hanus had little trouble with Swinnen and Liao, winning 8-4 to improve their team-leading duals mark to 8-2. The duo has won four of their last five matches.

With a 7-6 lead at the No. 3 spot, Hoeveler screamed an ace across the court to bring it to match point. Lock then slammed the next point home for the duo's second-consecutive win to get to 2-1 on the season.

The Wildcats' No. 1 doubles team -- Perrin and Tempke -- fell behind 4-2, but battled back to win 8-5, improving to 3-4 in duals.

It was the second sweep of doubles competition for the `Cats -- the first coming in their season-opening 5-2 win over DePaul.

Tempke got the `Cats on the board in singles by improving his dual mark to 4-6 with a dominating, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3. Sophomore Matt Christian made quick work of his opponent as well, with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Pickard.

Hanus fought through a sore shoulder against the nation's 16th-ranked Sven Swinner, but fell short, losing 6-4, 6-4.

The `Cats won the remaining three matches from there though, with Schaechterle supplying the clincher at No. 5.

After Perrin closed out his straight-set win (7-6, 6-4), Lock recorded his team-leading eighth dual victory with a grueling win in three sets.

The sophomore dropped the first set 6-2, but regained his composure in the second with a 6-3 win. He then seemed to have things locked up with a 5-3 lead in the third set, but let Spencer back in to tie it up 5-5. Spencer took the serve and quickly put Lock in a 6-5 hole.

Lock held serve to move to a tie-breaker though where he saved his best for last. The speedy sophomore chased down a dying drop shot from Spencer towards the sideline. Lock stretched out and hit a cross-court winner just before banging into a couple of chairs on the sideline. His teammates erupted at the sight of the circus shot, propelling Lock to win in the tie-breaker 8-6

Northwestern will reopen conference action at Michigan Saturday, Feb. 26.
