EVANSTON, Ill. - Fifth-ranked Northwestern defeated a top-20 opponent for the second time in as many days with a 4-1 win over 14th-ranked Kentucky Sunday afternoon in College Station, Texas. The Wildcats improve to 3-0 on the year.

Northwestern remains perfect in doubles competition on the season, sweeping the three matches. Only the top-four singles players finished competition, however, as inclement weather wiped out the final two matches. Graduate student Valerie Vladea (Tiffin, Iowa/Burlington Central) was one of three `Cats to post wins in both singles and doubles.

Sophomore Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and senior Kristi Roemer (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) posted one of the biggest victories on the day, upsetting the nation's 11th-ranked duo Coventry and Schwenk 8-5

Vladea teamed with junior Jamie Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day) to claim their doubles match 8-2, while the top-ranked tandem of Audra Cohen (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) and Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) defeated sixth-ranked Aibika Kalsarieva and Sarah Foster 9-8.

Top-ranked Grier and fourth-ranked Grier each won their singles matches as well, beating seventh-ranked Kalsarieva and 30th-ranked Foster, respectively.

Vladea proved to have Schwenk's number in singles action as well, winning 6-4, 6-2.

Peisel and freshman Alexis Conill (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla/Cardinal Gibbons) were both unable to finish their singles matches at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively, due to inclement weather.

The Wildcats are next in action at the National Indoor Championship, hosted by Wisconsin, Thursday through Monday, Feb. 3-6.
