UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Northwestern men's soccer team was tied with No. 15 Penn State, 1-1, at halftime Thursday night in University Park, Pa. but the Nittany Lions roared out with two goals in less than three minutes to earn a 3-1 victory at Jeffrey Field.

The loss snapped a five-match streak in which Northwestern (3-3-4, 0-1-1) did not lose. It was the Wildcats' longest such streak since an 8-0-0 streak in 1988.

Penn State (6-3-0, 1-0-0) won for the sixth time in seven matches as Brian Devlin scored two goals.

Devlin got the Nittany Lions on the board just eight minutes into the match, as a cross from Simon Okemanda was pushed home by Devlin. However, the 'Cats held PSU scoreless the rest of the half, and answered with just 1:17 left in the stanza when Will Nicholas rebounded a saved shot by Jaro Pylypczak for his collegiate goal.

Penn State was able to break deadlock quickly as the hour approached, and did not take long after that to put up an insurance goal. David Walters lasered a free kick from 25 yards out that beat NU goalkeeper Brian Heckenbach. Just 2:21 later, Devlin iced it when he fired a shot into the right-hand corner of the net off another cross from Okemanda.

Heckenbach had six saves in the goal, while his counterpart (PSU's Matt Novchich) had two stops. Penn State outshot NU, 11-5.

Northwestern continues its East Coast road trip with a match at Duke Sunday afternoon.
