EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern baseball team fell to Indiana 5-3, Sunday afternoon at Rocky Miller Park in Evanston. In the final game of a four-game series, Indiana scored three runs in the final two innings to salvage its first win of the weekend. With the three-win weekend, Northwestern improved its overall record to 15-22 and 4-8 in the Big Ten.

Indiana scored first, plating two runs in the third inning. The Wildcats responded with a run in the fourth on a Josh Lieberman (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) double to right field that scored Ken Padgett (Littleton, Colo./ Arapahoe) from second. Padgett had reached on a double to left and ended the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

The score stayed 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth, when Matt Thompson (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Dan Pohlman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington). Padgett then hit his second double of the game, scoring Thompson and tying the contest at 2-2.

The Hoosiers scored two runs in the top of the eighth and one more in the ninth to take a 5-2 lead heading into the Wildcat half of the ninth.

In the ninth, David Gresky (North Royalton, Ohio/St. Ignatius) hit a two-out single to right and scored on an error by the Indiana rightfielder. However, for the first time this weekend the Wildcats could not come up with the winning run in their final at-bat.

Offensively for the Wildcats, Lieberman aided Padgett's effort by going 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Eric Roeder (Onsted, Mich./Onsted), Steve Haake (Belleville, Ill./Gibault) and Pohlman each had a hit.

Senior Michael Nall (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) took the mound and gave up four runs on eight hits, striking out six. Nall leads the NU pitching staff in strikeouts, setting down 63 hitters in his 67.0 innings of work. The loss drops his record to 4-5 on the season.
