
Men's Tennis Falls to Purdue

Evanston, Ill. - The 44th-ranked Northwestern men's tennis squad dropped a 4-3 decision to 52nd-ranked Purdue, Saturday afternoon in West Lafayette, Ind. With the loss, NU falls to 8-6 overall and 2-2 in the Big Ten.
Head coach Paul Torricelli once again mixed up the doubles line-up, but to no avail. The `Cats dug themselves into an early hole, letting the Boilermakers sweep the doubles play and earn the first point of the match.
In singles action, Torricelli reinserted Jackie Jenkins into the top spot where he fell (6-4, 6-0) to 39th-ranked Jason Marshall. At No. 2 singles, Brad Erickson beat Scott Mayer in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-0). Ryan Edlefsen also won in a three set battle, defeating Derek Miller at No. 5 (6-3, 4-6, 6-4). Josh Axler was the only Cat to win in straight sets, taking Dan Swan at No. 6 (7-6, 6-2).
At No. 4 singles, Jamie Sahara lost to Andrew Wakefield in a second-set tiebreaker to secure the win for Purdue.
