Evanston, Ill - After six hours of tennis, Thursday's women's tennis match between Northwestern and Notre Dame came down to the third set of the last court. Jessica Rush (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) defeated Lindsey Green, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, at sixth singles to give the 11th-ranked Wildcats a win over the fifth-ranked Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame took the doubles point and the first two singles matches before NU could get on the board, but Shannon Duffy (Plano, Texas/Plano) got the ball rolling for the `Cats with a 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-1 victory at number three singles. The `Cats would fire off two more wins by Marine Piriou (St. Pol-de-Leon, France/Notre Dame) and Simona Petrutiu (Constanta, Romania/Southern, Illinois) to even the score at three all, and set up the final battle between Rush and Green. With both teams lined up courtside, Rush took advantage of Green's serving errors and used her own strength to give NU the win.
Piriou continued her unbeaten streak as she upped her record to 10-0 in dual action.
