
Grapplers Fall To Purdue, 26-9

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern wrestling team dropped its seventh Big Ten match of the year, falling to 21st-ranked Purdue 26-9. The Wildcats started out with a 3-0 lead when 165-pounder Ryan Kane earned a decision, beating Kirk Moore 6-1. But the Boilermakers took control after that, winning the next seven bouts and putting the match out of reach for NU.
Freshman 141-pounder Josh Ballard put Northwestern back on the board by defeating Paul Sacquitne, 7-3, making the score 23-6. Purdue answered with Brad Harper taking down Ryan Cumbee at 149, increasing their lead to 20.
In the last match of the night, Northwestern's Jason Erwinski improved his record to 15-4 by earning a 6-1 decision over Oscar Santiago. Erwinski now stands at 6-1 in conference action this season.
