Wrestlers Sweep Missouri and Marquette

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern wrestling team improved its record to 5-6-1 overall with a pair of dual meet wins on Sunday. The Wildcats defeated Marquette, 30-16, and then followed it up with a 19-17 decision over Missouri.
The Wildcats were the home team for the day, which took place at Marion Central HS in Woodstock, Ill.
Northwestern had a trio of wrestlers earn two victories apiece. Mark Bybee, the seventh-ranked wrestler in the country at 174 lbs., defeated Marquette's Mark Corsentino (14-4) and Missouri's John Kopinsky (9-6). Scott Schatzman, the fifth-ranked wrestler in the country at 141 lbs., rolled over Marquette's Jamie Weigandt (16-1) and gained a 3-1 decision over Mizzou's Jeremy Spates. At 125 lbs., Steve Cordova defeated Marquette's Dan Fell (9-5) and Missouri's Jesse West (11-4).
Two other NU grapplers were credited with two wins on the day. At 133 lbs., John Giacche defeated Mark Bader of Missouri, 15-6, after gaining a forfeit decision vs. Marquette. At the heavyweight class, Josh Saul won by forfeit over Marquette and then downed the Tigers' Chad Hertzog, 3-2. That victory allowed the Wildcats to get the win over Missouri.
Northwestern will be back in action Friday night, hosting Ohio State at 7 p.m. in Welsh-Ryan Arena.
