Wildcat Women Lead After First Day of NU Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. - The 10th-ranked Northwestern women?s swimming and diving team has a 51 point lead while the men are in third place after the first day of the Northwestern Invitational.
The women started the meet strong, capturing the opening event, the 200 freestyle relay. The team of seniors Courtney Allen (Monument, Colo.), Dominique Diezi (Zurich, Switzerland) and Allyson Bowman (Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore Merritt Adams (Norcross, Ga.) posted a winning time of 1:33.42. Allen came back later in the evening to win the 50 free, tying a pool record with her time of 23.12.
On the men?s side, junior Steve Steketee (Golden, Colo.) finished fourth in the 50 free (20.96) while senior Mike Jacob (Mission Viejo, Calif.) took fourth in the 500 free in a season-best time of 4:35.21.
Action resumes tomorrow morning, with the preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 6 p.m. at Norris Aquatics Center in Evanston.
