DAVIS, Calif. — The No. 1 Northwestern field hockey team set a season-high in scoring as it picked up a 7-0 victory over UC Davis on Sunday at Aggie Field Hockey Facility.
The Wildcats (9-0, 0-0 Big Ten) set the tone with a four-goal first quarter, their most prolific opening frame since NU netted five first-quarter goals against UC Davis on Oct. 20, 2024.
The road result over the Aggies (2-5) completed a 3-0 West Coast swing for Head Coach Tracey Fuchs’ group. Northwestern’s seven-goal effort marked its highest-scoring game since a 7-0 win over Ohio State on Oct. 26, 2025.
Ashley Sessa recorded a game-high five points (two goals, one assist). Olivia Bent-Cole extended her points streak to four matches with her own pair of goals. Raquel Hofmeister, Eleanor Evarts and Piper Borz both added a goal. Aerin Krys dished out an assist.
Juliana Boon, Faye Post and Kayla Joyce each saw action in the victory, combining for the team’s sixth shutout of the season.
The Wildcats posted 24 shots, 14 of which were on target, while holding UC Davis to just one shot in the contest. Post tallied the stop on the Aggies’ lone shot on goal.
Borz scored the opener in the sixth minute, capitalizing on Krys’ assist. Sessa doubled the Northwestern lead less than 10 minutes into the match.
In a mere 73-second span, Bent-Cole struck twice, extending her points streak to four consecutive games. Sessa set up Bent-Cole’s first goal, while a scrappy individual effort in front of the net yielded her second.
The ’Cats outshot the Aggies 13-0 in the first half en route to a 4-0 halftime lead.
Sessa buried her second goal in the 37th minute, extending the visiting advantage to 5-0. With just two seconds remaining in the third quarter, Hofmeister converted her first career goal following an APC opportunity.
Joining NU’s extended list of offensive contributions, Evarts netted her first collegiate goal with less than five minutes left in the game. The goal put the finishing touch on a 7-0 victory for the visitors.
The Wildcats will open Big Ten play at home against Michigan State on Friday, Sept. 25. Opening pass-back from Lakeside Field is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
