EVANSVILLE, Ind. (August 28, 2026) – Northwestern (2-0-1) continued its unbeaten start to the 2026 season in come-from-behind fashion this evening, with goals from Tyler Glassberg and Evrit Fisher propelling the ‘Cats to a 2-1 win over Evansville (0-3) at Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville, Ind.

How It Happened
Chances were at a premium in the early minutes on a warm, late summer evening on Indiana’s southern edge. Following a Purple Aces’ foul, Tre Barrett’s free kick connected with a leaping Baraka Tarleton, who saw his header collected by Evansville goalkeeper Hugo Amo with less than five minutes gone. A fortuitous bounce nearly saw the hosts go in front in the 20th minute, as Patrik Fagan narrowly pulled his shot from 18 yards out wide of the near post.
Pablo Calvete gave the Purple Aces their breakthrough in the 23rd minute, slotting home from the penalty spot after a Wildcat foul inside the 18-yard box.
With time ticking away, a pair of substitutes brought Northwestern back on level terms in the 41st minute. Seth Mahlmeister unleashed a strike from just inside the box that forced a diving stop out of Amo, but Glassberg smashed home the resulting rebound to even the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Northwestern looked to carry over momentum coming out of the locker room, as it generated a pair of corner kicks inside the opening three minutes of the second stanza. An errant Evansville back pass looked headed for goal in the 52nd minute, striking the post before Amo stepped in to smother.
Peter Riesz took aim at goal from distance in the 74th minute, letting fly with a right-footed effort that forced a diving stop out of Amo at his near post. Just over a minute later, Bryant Mayer’s header was cleared off the line to keep it all square. Dominic Pereira came up with a pair of clutch saves shortly after, denying Fagan and Alex Tura, respectively.
The Wildcats’ ninth corner kick of the night provided the night’s defining moment. A Barrett delivery was deflected by Mayer into the path of Fisher, who chipped over Amo and tucked his shot in at the far post to give the visitors a 2-1 edge in the 82nd minute. Pereira provided two more vital stops inside the last five minutes to cement a road victory.
Looking At The Numbers
- Glassberg’s first-half goal marked his fourth collegiate tally.
- Mahlmeister picked up his first point as a Wildcat on Glassberg’s strike, recording his fifth career assist.
- Fisher opened his collegiate account in the second half with his game-winning goal.
- Mayer was credited with his 12th collegiate assist on the goal, a mark that moves him into a tie for 14th all-time at Northwestern.
- Barrett also added the seventh assist of his career on Fisher's late winner.
- Through the season’s opening three games, six different Wildcats have found the back of the net.
- Pereira piled up a career-high six saves, four of which came in the second half.
